    What is the difference between flood damage and mould?

    Water and flooding can bring mould into your house. This mould can wreak havoc on your health, so it’s wise to call us immediately if you experience water or flooding in your home.

    Flooding after a storm or fire can make mould growth inevitable. Mould spores are everywhere in the air, so they quickly find their way into your home following a flood. If you have flooding damage due to a storm or fire, you will likely have mould on your floors, walls and ceiling. The process of recovering from water damage is more intense than traditional flood damage because we’re trying to eliminate the mould.

    What happens during mould removal?

    To eliminate mould in the home, we want to eliminate it before spreading. So we start by treating your house with an air dehumidifier, using negative ions to remove moisture. Then we move on to portable dehumidifiers, using dry air to eliminate water and moisture from your home. These machines are placed in the rooms with the most mould growth and work 24/7 over 4 days.

    Once all of your carpets, upholstery, furniture and walls can be dry after our last device leaves your home, we will begin cleaning with a solution called bleach. Bleach destroys harmful mould spores through the process of oxidation. We use this solution to disinfect all of your home’s affected areas.

    After cleaning your mould-damaged home, we install a UV light to kill any remaining spores. This way, you won’t have to worry about mould returning to your house. We also add dehumidifiers and air purifiers that will prevent new mould growth.
