1) Have the power shut off from the electrical panel, if applicable. If you are not sure how to do this safely, contact an electrician or your service provider.
2) If there is a gas pipe in the wall, disconnect it from the wall outlet. That is done to prevent an explosion.
3) Watch for signs of structural damage caused by water, such as bulging walls and ceilings, cracks in floors and walls, or floors that are collapsing. That can be a sign that there may be structural damage to your property. In case you notice any of these problems, call us immediately.
4) Prevent further damage by isolating the water source and removing any electrical appliances or other items that may be affected.
5) Remove as much water as you can with towels, mops, and buckets. Do not use any electrically-based equipment, such as an electric vacuum cleaner. If you cannot remove water, it is best to call us immediately.
6) Leave all standing water untouched. If you have a sump pump or other drainage system, find out whether it’s working correctly.
You should have it serviced so that it can work if you have a water leak in your home or business. Quick detection can lead to a quick fix. If not, you could have more trouble on your hands.
