WHO TO CALL FOR A WATER LEAK IN THE CEILING?

LEAK SIGNS

Here are some signs of a leaky ceiling:

  • Stains on the ceiling or walls
  • Condensation-looking stains on the ceiling or walls
  • Sinkholes in ceilings
  • Damage to your plant’s root system.

FIND THE LEAK

Once you’ve discovered one or more of the signs of a leaky ceiling, there are a few things you can do to track down the source:

  • To determine the cause, try to turn off the water supply closest to your ceiling. Then, if it’s still leaking, move further away from your leak until the leak stops. Your leakage should be coming from that direction.
  • Check nearby fixtures for broken or missing drain covers or improperly installed drain lines and showerheads.
  • Check for leaks with a flashlight. Sometimes, you can’t reach the hole without moving furniture.
  • An easy way to find a leaky pipe is by using food colouring. Put some colouring on one side of the pipe and turn off the water supply closest to that pipe. If your ceiling doesn’t leak after 20 minutes, turn on the water closest to that pipe. Then, inspect your ceiling for leaks.

It may be hard to find a leaky ceiling, but if you do, turn off the water and hire a plumber to fix the problem. If left unrepaired, water can cause mould or mildew growth. In addition, it can cause health problems, particularly to people with asthma or allergies.

HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM

To fix a leaky ceiling, call a professional. While most residential leaks are minor and can be fixed by a homeowner, there are instances where a professional plumber is necessary.

WHY TURN TO A PROFESSIONAL?

If your ceiling leaks, call a professional. Professional plumbers are trained to find the source of a leak and fix it. In addition, they know how to deal with pipes and fixtures that are buried in your ceiling.
