1. Put people and safety first
For immediate danger to life or a fire, call 000. Keep people away from wet electrical fittings, unstable materials, sewage and floodwater. Do not enter an unsafe area to take photos or attempt a repair.
Read the first actions after water damage for more practical precautions.
2. Call Reztor when restoration help is needed
Call 1800 739 867 if water is still present, materials are wet, or you need help understanding the restoration next step. Tell us the suburb, what happened, when it started, any hazards and the access contact. We confirm current availability and attendance expectations.
A restoration call does not lodge an insurance claim or establish coverage. Plumbing, electrical safety and building repairs may require separate licensed trades.
3. Notify your insurer promptly
Report the incident and ask what immediate work can be authorised, what evidence is needed and whether an inspection is required. Record the claim number and instructions. If you are arranging work before a claim decision, clarify responsibility for costs; do not assume reimbursement.
See Insurance costs and approval questions before approving a scope.
If you cannot reach the insurer
Keep a record of your attempts and use the insurer’s emergency claims contact where available. Do not expose anyone to danger while waiting. If you arrange urgent work, keep the agreed scope, costs and available evidence, and contact the insurer again as soon as practical.
Tenants and strata properties
Notify the owner or agent and, where relevant, building management. Share any affected lot or common-area details and confirm who can authorise access and work.
Once the immediate response is organised
Use Working with your insurer to keep photos, claim references, restoration findings and scope updates together. Our insurance and claims support page explains Reztor’s role.
