What is the difference between water damage clean-up and flood clean-up?
Water damage clean-up is for water that starts inside or enters through the building, such as a burst pipe, a leaking appliance or storm water through the roof. Flood clean-up is for floodwater that comes in from outside at ground level, which is treated as contaminated. Both start with safety, extraction and moisture checks.
Can I clean up a small leak myself?
You can mop up small amounts of clean water and move belongings out of the way. The difficulty is the water you can’t see in underlay, wall cavities, cabinetry and ceilings. If an area stays damp or smells musty, or water has spread beyond one spot, a moisture check is worthwhile.
Should I turn on fans or a heater?
Fans can help with clean water once electrical hazards are ruled out, but they rarely dry underlay, walls or subfloors fully. Don’t run fans over water from a toilet, sewage or storm runoff, because they can spread contaminants. Heaters can make conditions worse for mould if moisture is trapped.
Will insurance cover water damage clean-up?
Sudden and accidental damage, such as a burst pipe, is often covered, depending on your policy. Slow leaks over time may not be. Your insurer decides cover. We provide photos, moisture readings and notes about the work to support your claim.
