HOW TO DRY A WET RUG FAST

The wet rug is a problem that many homeowners have encountered. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for the moisture in the rug to build up and cause mould, mildew, and deterioration of the flooring underneath.

Sometimes you can save it by placing a towel on the dry rug, but this often results in an uneven surface and doesn’t always work. Of course, if worse comes to worst, you can always buy a new rug.

Methods To Dry A Wet Rug

There are a few straightforward methods for drying a wet rug.

Method One: Use A Dehumidifier

Dehumidifiers are great for drying your rug. The dehumidifier puts moisture into the air and pulls moisture out of the rug. Make sure you set it on the right humidity setting not to blow the moisture into other areas of your home. You don’t want the dampness to spread.

Method Two: Air Your Rug Out

Sometimes a rug can be air-dried if you have plenty of time and patience. First, flip your rug onto another surface, preferably a hard floor like tile or wood, if this is an option. Then, open your windows and let the moving air dry the rug.

Method Three: Use A Dryer

You can use your dryer as well. Just set it on the highest heat setting and let it blow over your rug. Be sure to keep an eye on it and don’t leave it unattended. A hot air dryer is an excellent option for a large area such as a living room or bedroom. Smaller areas should be dried using a paper towel on the floor and a fan.

Method Four: Remove The Rug

If your rug is so wet that you cannot air dry it or have no other option, you can permanently remove the rug and place it outside to dry. Of course, this will require buying a new rug, but is it the most significant investment in your home? On the other hand, it’s better than having mould grow under your feet.

Conclusion

While there are some methods to drying a wet rug, they are not perfect. The best approach is to place a towel on the ridges and vacuum the moisture. You will save time and effort that way, but your carpet will still be damp.

Also, if you must use a dehumidifier or dryer, be sure to watch the humidity setting since too much moisture can cause mould and mildew to grow in the rug.
